This workshop is meant for Saltlands and the Saltmines community and is lead by engineer/producer Jim Smith. Here’s what Jim will be covering:
– proper setup
– SPL vs/and wind safety
– storage practices
– mechanical functions of dynamic vs ribbon vs condenser
– mic choice!
– basic signal path and gain stage considerations
– general placement suggestions for sound
Interns and assistants are encouraged to attend. Maximum 12 people. Please RSVP.

ANALOG TAPE ALIGNMENT – workshop full

This workshop follows up nicely to engineer Jim Smith‘s ANALOG TAPE OVERVIEW. In this session, Jim will specifically train you to align/calibrate an Otari MTR-90 2” Tape Machine properly. The general concepts are applicable to 2″ machines across the land. Ideal for assistants and engineers. Maximum 7 people.

Saltlands house engineer Jim Smith (Josh Ritter, We Are Augustines, Au Revoir Simone), introduces you to the world of analog tape via Saltlands Otari MTR-90 2” Tape Machine. He goes over threading a reel, prepping and operating a 2″ machine and dumping into ProTools. This is a general overview. Ideal for beginners and as a refresher for engineers and assistants. Maximum 7 people.
